USING XMPS IN LIGHTROOM
1. Copy the supplied XMPs into the folder containing your original raw image files.
2. In your catalog, select all of the images and select Metadata > Read Metadata from Files.
3. Allow the previews to regenerate. This will take much less time than it takes a lizard to re-grow its tail, but it can still take some time depending on your computer's super powers.
USING XMPS WITH BRIDGE
1. Copy the supplied XMPs into the folder containing your original raw image files.
2. Open Bridge and refresh your thumbnails by hitting F5. This will update your thumbnail previews with the edited ones.

3. Re-link the catalog to your original raw files. You can either :
- Click on the question mark on an image thumbnail (grid view/Library mode) and locate the file on your hard drive. Once you've located the image, make sure the "find nearby missing photos" box is checked in the dialogue box. This will allow Lightroom to locate all missing images that are located within the same folder as the one you've just updated. If your images are contained in multiple folders, you'll need to do this process multiple times.
- OR, in the Folders drop-down on the left side of the screen in Library mode, right-click on the folder that shows a question mark and select the "Find missing folder" option. Again, if you have multiple folders, you'll need to do this multiple times.
- Grab a beer or a cup of coffee or go out for pizza or tacos or throw in some laundry or walk the dog or do something, you know - ELSE - and pat yourself on the back for being an efficient multi-tasking machine. Who's a badass? YOU ARE! YOU ARE!
- If you want to sort of fast-forward the process a bit, you can force LR to render standard previews instead of 1:1 by selecting "Build Standard-size Previews" in the Library menu.
- There is a wealth of information on managing previews and optimizing performance here.
